The Double Whammy

Hello! Unless you didn’t read Monday’s post, you know that today’s post is both a Thought for the Week and an Action Item.

My Though for the Week has to do with a show that I recently discovered, called The Buried Life. On that show, 4 guys are trying to complete a bucket list with 100 items on it, as well as help other people with their bucket list. This inspired me to make a bucket list for myself, as follows.

  • Help design a video game. It can be for any system, for any company, but I would love to create at least one. It’s sort of my dream job.
  • Get married. This one is high up simply because it’s hard, partly because I have Asperger’s, and that makes me uncomfortable in social situations. But, I would be interested in settling down and getting married. To bad that would require me to work up the courage to ask someone out…
  • Accidentally or on purpose, find a fossil. As a note, this does not have to be a new species or genre of prehistoric animal. That would be an insane requirement to this thing.
  • Work at Nintendo. Note that it doesn’t have to be with a job that is on designing video games; I just want to work there. Cause that would be awesome.
  • Go out to a dance. Perhaps harder then the get married one, this one will be hard for the exact same reasons…and also, I have never gone to a dance before.
  • Visit another country. Inspiration can’t just come from Canada, after all. Specifically, how about South America? Jungles seem to be a good video game local
  • Go to college. I can’t really help design a video game without some education…
  • Take an art class. My drawing is terrible, and I want to improve it. It’ll probably help me with video game design.
  • Get my driver’s license. I’ll need it eventually, after all…
  • Write a short story that gets published. As in, enter a short story contest. That counts as being published.

Now, while you may be wondering exactly what this has to do with video games. However, think about a bucket list for a moment. It’s basically a list of goals that you want to carry out before you die. That’s basically what a video game is. In a video game, you’re trying to complete objectives before you die, in which case it’s game over. Thus, a bucket list is like a video game…except you don’t have enemies coming after you, or power ups. But you could have both of those, I suppose.

So, what I want to assign you now, is to come up with your own bucket list. Then, use the previous two action items to create a game scenario. Create a setup scenario (where you introduce us to the item), and then the payoff. At the same time, try and raise the stakes. You may want to try and save some of your tougher items for later. If you want, you can add video game elements to the list, but that’s not required.

Whew…looking at this…I think I’ll be a little busy. Probably won’t post my response till Friday, just so you know. Anyways, good luck, and have fun!
